Hoppers is a nice little bar in Sachsenhausen (very nice part of Frankfurt). It is just two minutes to walk from the U-bahn station (metro station) Schweizerplatz.
The interior is too simple for a cocktail bar. Tables are kind of old and cheap. Still the atmosphere is quite nice.
The list of...

When I was working in Saint-Petersburg some of my tourists were asking me sometimes about churches in the city, but not for the sightseeing purpose, but for their soul needs. I have realized that some religious people, especially those who come to Saint-Petersburg for a long term stay, would feel...

I like James Cook pub for it's nice atmosphere, good live music and great food, but service has still a long way to go. Depending on the day you can get such an unfriendly waitress there, that the whole evening will leave an unpleasant impression. Also be aware that sometimes they forget to...

If you go to Saint-Petersburg and want to taste some Russian caviar with good vodka then Caviar Bar and Restaurant at Grand Hotel Europe on Nevsky avenue is the place to go.
I have never seen such a great selection of vodka in my life. They have 70 kinds of vodka including home infused, which...

If you haven't been to Red Square, you haven't really been to Moscow - one can say. Everyone who is watching TV can see it at the background for all the news reporters on political issues from Russia. But when you really come to the Red Square, you realize that it looks so different. I always...

I don't really understand the tourist value of Mausoleum. Why somebody would want to see the dead body? Even for a person like me, who has witnessed the last years of Soviet reality and was taught at school to love Lenin(really they wanted us to almost love the guy!), it is still hard to find a...

This hotel is not in the city center, but I am not sure, that you can find one for the same price in the heart of the Old Town and it would be not a hostel type. Besides transport connection is really great: tram number 9 stops in front of the hotel and the stop has the same name - Golf Hotel -...

If you happen to be in Palanga or Kleipeda in summer, the I would advice to have a ride or make a guided tour to Neringa.
Neringa is a name for the Lithuanian territory on Curonian Spit (the rest of the territory belongs to Russia and can be accessed from Kaliningrad). Cross the Curonian Gulf by...

When I've been to Venice I went to San Marco square like a "proper" tourist. I found it really beautiful, but pigeons which are hanging out there were kind of spoiling the experience. They are so used to people, that they have no fear to land on their shoulders or even heads. This was really...

Saint-Petersburg’s train stations are really old and normally they are situated in 19th century buildings which are worth seeing. Except for one new modern train station at the suburb, all of them are in the city center, so even if you don’t take the train you won’t need to go far to have a...

Rossi street or ulitsa Zodchego Rossi (Улица Зодчего Росси in Russian) is a very interesting place in Saint-Petersburg. Italian architect Rossi was famous for building exceptional beautiful palaces and houses in the city. The architectural ensemble of this street is an example of...

There are just a few Cinemas in Saint-Petersburg, where one can watch movies in original languages.
One of the best in my opinion is Dom Kino (Cinema House, Дом Кино).
It is well known for alternative films demonstrations. All the conceptual European and other Non-Hollywood independent...

We have recently been to Ventspils for a day. We had some time between the business meeting and flight back, so we decided to have a walk around. That was not our first time in Ventspils, but we hardly remembered the city because the last visit was some years ago and also for a short period of...

Pilies Gatve is one of my favourite streets in Vilnius. It is a narrow cobbled street in the Old Town. There is eternal amount of little shops, boutiques, cafes and restaurants on both sides. You can turn into even smaller lanes or squares which will lead you back to Pilies or head to the main...

I've been several times to Riga and couple of times I traveled by plane. I always had the same problem with getting to the airport from the city center: I had to take the taxi (not the cheapest alternative when you are on a short budget) or to get on the bus, which takes really long, stops at all...

For those who happened to be around Kaunas and likes to combine outdoor activities and historical sightseeing I would recommend to visit Rumsiskes. This is an open air ethnographic museum on a huge territory. We parked our car at the entrance and bought pedestrian tickets for 6 litas per adult....

From today (18.02.2008) there is a new multimedia guide in Louvre available for rent. This is a palm computer with head set and stylo, which weights just 280 gr. At the moment it contains 350 comments for 200 museum items (from the total of 35000). By the end of the year the numbers will reach...

Saint-Petersburg has a real lack of accommodation in general and budget accommodation in particular. During the high season it is almost impossible to find something which is not a presidential suite in 5 star hotel on a short notice.
I don't live in Saint-Petersburg any more, so every time I...

I've stayed there once because the conference was at the convention center near by. It is situated at Port de Versailles metro station, so it takes about 20 minutes to get to the main city attractions. On the other hand, I wouldn't really recommend this hotel for tourist purposes, because there...

I don't know any other country in the world where Georgian (here I mean a country, not a state of US) cuisine is so much appreciated. Of course except for Georgia itself, Russia is a big fan of Georgian food. In Soviet times, when there were not so many international restaurants and not so much...
