Travel Blog: Take Me Out to the Ball Game

Published on 08:16pm 04/01/2008 by mke_maddie

Wrigley Field was first built in 1914, making it one of the second oldest baseball stadiums in the United States, just behind Fenway Park where the Boston Red Sex plays. And luckily for the Chicago Cubs, fans are dedicated to see them play whether they’re winning or not.

1. Chapter: Tickets and Parking are Hard to Come By

Published on 08:16pm 04/01/2008 by mke_maddie about Wrigley Field

Despite that this stadium is old and small, it’s a wonderful time, and because everyone has a wonderful time, expect games to be sold out. You will want to purchase your tickets in advance. Also expect to have a hard time with traffic and parking. After all, it is Chicago. You will have to pay $15 or more for parking. And I that found most (maybe all) parking lots do not allowing tailgating…which of course is the one downside to Wrigley Field. But again, this is in downtown Chicago, so space is limited.

2. Chapter: Always a Good Time

Published on 08:16pm 04/01/2008 by mke_maddie about Wrigley Field

The stadium is a site to see on a beautiful, sunny day… the infield’s dirt color is a crisp brunette, while the outfield grass is a striking emerald; green ivy’s cling to the old-fashioned outfield wall; bleacher bums sit just above the outfield wall with their bare chests to the sun; and people view the game in relaxation from rooftops of next door buildings….living next door to Wrigley Field is obviously has its benefits. And believe it or not (I say this being a Milwaukee Brewer fan), Cub fans are a lot of fun. People who attend are there for entertainment and to enjoy the game of baseball.

3. Chapter: It’s a Clean Stadium

Published on 08:16pm 04/01/2008 by mke_maddie about Wrigley Field

Visiting Wrigley is an exceptional time. The food is delicious. The bathrooms are clean. The Cubs can even put on one heck of a show. And remember to bring your glove. Catch some pre-game balls behind the outfield walls while the Cubs are warming up. Diving may be in order as you will not be the only person there. They also have some great bars/restaurants located right next to the stadium. We stopped at one that had no seating. Wrigley Field visitors grab a beer and hotdog, and chat with other visitors at standing tables. This is something I’ve definitely never seen before and thoroughly enjoyed it.
