The one thing you must do if in Palm Springs! The Aerial Tramway rises high up the slopes of Mount San Jacinto and takes you 8,500 feet up in 15 minutes with some breathtaking views over the Coachella Valley. On the way up and down, the cars rotate so everyone gets a great view. Once at the top, I went hiking for a good three hours on the nature trails and really enjoyed the scenery and experience.

Also at the top, was an upmarket restaurant (very expensive) and a fast food grill (looked OK), otherwise take a picnic. On the way down I heard a tour group complaining about the ‘Ride and Dine’ option they had taken (buffet style, food cold, small portions etc) which didn’t impress them. Trams departed every half-hour and I didn’t have any real wait in either direction.

Tip: At certain times of the year the temperature difference between the desert and the mountain can be as much as 25°C so take some warm clothing with you just incase.
