Travel Tip: Klymore Abbey

5 stars
Published on Jan 29, 2008 by cosmoclaudio for Kylemore Abbey

The Klymore Abbey is now the home of the Benedictine nuns but it wasn’t always so. This beautiful Gothic castle was built at the edge of the lake by the English businessman Mitchell Henry in 1865. But he wasn’t to stay there for long. A decade later his wife dies in a tragic event and he loses interest in the estate. So the castle is bought by the Benedictine order during World War One and now areas and part of the Abbey are open to the public eye. I was completely charmed by this huge picturesque castle and by its surroundings as well.
