When you say Galway you say Spanish Arch. Every tourist has to go on the banks of river Corrib to see the Arch and the remains of the famous city walls. In fact the name Spanish Arch has no practical foundation, because there is no proven evidence that the Spanish in Galway had anything to do with the building of the Arch. It was built in the 16th century on the site called The Head of the Wall and its original name was The Blind Arch. A funny thing to be mentioned: one of the remained ancient walls is incorporated into a Mall near the Eyre Square.
