Travel Tip: St Nicholas Church

5 stars
Published on Jan 29, 2008 by cosmoclaudio for Galway

I don’t recommend you should visit Galway by taking a guide tour or buying a tour book. You’ll miss all the fun. The best way to discover this city is to get lost while walking around and finding old buildings in random places. This was how I found the St Nicholas Church, a 4th century Bishop of Myra in Lycia. Everybody knows that today St Nicholas is the patronizing saint of children but it wasn’t always so. There I was told that during the middle ages he was known as the patron saint of sailors and that even Christopher Columbus entered this church.
