| Just outside the town of Letterkenny, near the tiny village of Churchill, you’ll find Glebe House and Gallery. Sitting in woodland gardens on the shores of Lough Gartan, this Regency-style house was originally built as a rectory in the 1820s and was once owned by English artist Derek Hill (1916-2000). Upon his death Hill donated the house and his art collection to the Irish government. Inside, it was decorated with Donegal folk art, Japanese and Islamic art, Victoriana, and William Morris papers and textiles. The stables had also been were converted into an art gallery to house the 300 item Hill Collection which included works by Picasso and Kokosha. Access to the house was by guided tour only and there was also a small tea room on the ground floor. |
