Travel Tip: Chau Doc

5 stars
Published on Jan 30, 2008 by Alucard for Châu Ðốc

Chau Doc is located on a tributary of the Mekong River and is an incredibly friendly bustling little city. Locals are known for being very warm and approachable. The main attraction of Chau Doc is Sam Mountain, that has a number of pagodas at its base, and some kind of army listening post on the top. Although the pagodas at the base of the mountain are nothing to writng about, the view from the top mountain is well worth climbing. You can combine a trip to Chau Doc with visiting Ba Chuc, where the Khmer Rouge massacred so many Vietnamese people in 1978, about which I already wrote about in another tip (that you might want to take a look at).
