Travel Tip: Qolsharif mosque

4 stars
Published on Jan 30, 2008 by Elizaoprisor for Kizicheskaya

Qolsharif, a spiritual leader who died along his students when defending Kazan of Russian occupation, gave the name to the Mosque. Be prepared to see the most imposing 1001 Arabian Nights building. On architectural level the Qolsharif has borrowed both early Renaissance and Ottoman features. Nowadays the mosque hosts a library, of great value I believe and a print house. One morning looking at the mosque attentively, I noticed certain similarities between Saint Basil's Cathedral and the Quolsharif.
