Travel Tip: Khan al Khalili

3 stars
Published on Feb 1, 2008 by AliJo for Khan al-Khalili

The Khan al Khalili, the famous market in Islamic Cairo, is a favorite tourist destination. This means, of course, that it is something of a tourist trap. It's worth a visit nevertheless, but I found that the merchandise was very over-priced and I bought souvenirs elsewhere. Once you pass through the more crowded streets at the front of the bazaar, however, the crowds of tourists thin out and the back streets are more pleasant and more interesting.
