Travel Tip: Gateway to the Whitsundays

4 stars
Published on Feb 1, 2008 by k_keefe for Airlie Beach

Peaceful, tranquil and serene. This is what I call paradise. Airlie Beach, Australia’s gateway to the majestic Whitsundays. 74 islands in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef.

I sunk my feet into the white, silica sands of world-famous Whitehaven Beach late on a Friday afternoon and watched the sun give way to the moon. Trying to decide what to do to tomorrow… Bushwalking, scuba diving, sailing across the crystal clear waters to one of the many islands, or just lazing around in the lagoon, which is surrounded by landscaped tropical gardens? I think I’ll try out the lagoon and some bushwalking.

The picture perfect holiday or weekend away.
