Every year, Perth plays host to the Royal Show, an all singing, all dancing celebration of everything that is Western Australia. Having arrived in Australia only a few days before, I couldn’t go anywhere without seeing signs for The Royal Show or hearing locals excitedly talking about it. So jet lag or no jet lag, I had to go and see what all the fuss was about. I really was surprised with just how big the show is and what an array of things there are to see and do. The action is centered around the show ring in the Claremont show grounds, where farmers from all over the state proudly parade their livestock. There is show jumping, sheep herding, pig racing not to mention monster truck shows and an impressive wood cutting contest! There are also displays of locally grown produce, stalls selling everything under the sun and some pretty hair raising fairground rides. Perhaps the best thing of all though is the fantastic atmosphere. Everyone is there to have a good time and the fun really is infectious!
