IMy husband and I were eating away snacks in our car like some teenage kids when we saw tens of fishing boats racing towards the open sea to begin their sea bounty hunt. What a beautiful sight! Ok, let’s go back to the beginning. It was raining lightly and we had just bought some snacks at the Sidek Esplanade. The esplanade runs along the seashore right at the Kudat Town. Laden with snacks and some hot tea (coffee for my husband), we drove to a secluded area at the end of the esplanade. The area was hidden partly by bushes from the view of people. We were munching away on some crackers, then we heard a distant whirring of engines. One boat appeared in our view, followed by another, then another, then another. All in all, there must have been 30 fishing boats racing to the sea! It was about 5.30pm. Maybe it was the time for the fishermen to set sail for the open sea. Watching the boats was like watching fishing boats peacefully setting off to the open sea in the movie Perfect Storm (remember George Clooney and Mark Wharlberg?).
