We took a day trip from Cairo to see Memphis, the Step Pyramid at Zoser's Funerary Complex, and the Red Pyramid at Dashur. We enjoyed our trip immensely, but if we had it to do over again, we'd probably give Memphis a miss. If you are particularly interested in ancient Egyptian history or archaeology, then you would probably find it more interesting than we did. But to the uninitiated or to the amateur, there's not much there to see. Most of Memphis' former grandeur has faded into the desert. We spent very little time at Memphis and in hindsight, we wish we had more time to spend at the other sites, as they were far more interesting.
