Travel Tip: Underberg

5 stars
Published on Feb 5, 2008 by marcus77 for Underberg

The small village Underberg has the same name like a german herb liqour. Coincidence? When I went there it rained a lot, but the surrounding looks like the alp region in Germany or Austria. There sre a lot of supply facilities for example a Spar supermarket, a chainsaw retailer and a furniture shop. The village itself is a stopover when you are on the way to Lesotho. From the "mainsquare" leaves a minibus to a place two hours away where you change to a 4WD minibus. It´s the only possibility to get up to the Sanipass. The staff at the border won´t let you go through if you go there on your own with a VW rabbit.
