Travel Tip: Explosions and parades

4 stars
Published on Feb 6, 2008 by anja78 for Granada

When I first came to Granada I was warned not to be put off by the "bombs" going off - what the helpful hostel manager meant, were firecrackers. Apparently one of the favorite pastimes in Granada is to set off firecrackers in trash cans - which is so loud it sounds very much like an explosion. It may be in celebration of a religious festiveness, which seems to take place often and apart from firecrackers encourages parades and loud music. However, it appears sometimes Granada residents simply enjoy their firecrackers.
