Travel Tip: Improvement of the coast

3 stars
Published on Feb 7, 2008 by annatravel for Sochi

There are three types of beaches in Sochi: wild beaches, private beaches and public beaches.
Wild beaches are normally in situated in very secluded places, there are just a few people there, but unfortunately no special facilities (like toilets, medical office, life guards etc). We had once a problem, when my friend was badly burnt by a jelly fish and we needed to drive for some kilometres back to the hotel in order to get first medical aid.
Public beaches are very crowded since the entrance is free. They are quite dirty and full of rubbish, but all the food and entertainment is there.
Private beaches normally belong to hotels and resort centers, but some of them are opened to public for a fee. We found one beach for a very attractive price, but the facilities were not so good there. There was just one toilet cabin for all the people and a very questionable life guard, who was always sitting in a café and didn’t show any interest when one kid was almost sinking.
This year government started the certification of the public and private beaches. They will be all obliged to have standard life guard, medical and sanitary services, as well as cleanliness standards.
