The bordercrossing between Costa Rica and Nicaragua is quite an experience. Entering Nicaragua as a European or American Tourist you are likely to end up paying a small amount of unnecssary fees to a helpful soul who will try to ferry you to the correct window in the chaotic bustle and then split the extra couple of dollars you are being charged with the customs official handling your entry papers. This is acceptable and doesn't seem like too much of a rip-off. Coming back from Nicaragua, the con-artists are more cocky. A guy with a fake customs booth tried to convince us we needed to pay 10 Dollars for a label in our passport without which we would not be allowed back into Costa Rica. That was just a little too much to believe.
