Banjarmasin is the capital city of South Borneo and although it is bigger compare to Balikpapan in East Borneo, so much to say I prefer Balikpapan, the city is more cleaner, more tidier, and less complicated to my opinion. The traffic in Banjarmasin is quite depressing especially if you are new to the city and not used to it you would feel as if you are only driving around and around and return to the same spot (ha-ha), however they still have traditional transportation called Becak (rickshaw) compare to Balikpapan and I totally love becak so I know I will always miss going back to visit Banjarmasin. There are many things to go to that are authentically local however if you know nothing, you are totally lost; let me give you a little insight where to get things when you are in the need and yet you just arrived in Banjarmasin; go to Mitra Mall (Mitra Plaza) in downtown (Jalan Pangeran Antarsari), this is a very popular shopping complex and most likely you can get almost anything a foreigner needs in a strange country ;) (Well at least basic needs such as toilet paper for your stock that is he-he); I do have to say though, don’t picture it as a fancy mall such as the ones you can find in Jakarta.
