You must stay at the Empire when you are in Brunei - it is an attraction in itself. Our tour guide told us that it was built by one of Brunei’s finance ministers for his own residence. Eventually the minister lost his job (can you guess why?) and the residence was turned into a hotel. I am not sure if the story was true or was just meant for us, tourists, but it certainly intrigued me.

It was the most luxurious hotel I have ever seen. I felt like a queen. Marble, real gold, huge bathrooms, enormous beds and spectacular views – and I had the cheapest room category! I am definitely planning to go back to Brunei and stay at the Empire again, the experience was unforgettable.
