Trencin is a beautiful city on the Vah river in Northern Slovakia, near the border with the Czech Republic. Situated on the top of a very high hill, The Trencin castle dominates the view of the city and it can be seen from every point around. The centre is between the hill and the river. It offers some very nice (usually elongated) squares and a nice old city gate. There is also a synagogue, which seems very big with its large dome, but at the time of my visit was not opened to the public and probably not in use. Behind the castle there are large gardens which look more like forest, but even in the winter are very good place for a short walk.
