Travel Tip: Vittoriosa

4 stars
Published on Feb 29, 2008 by Vihren for Vittoriosa

Vittoriosa is one of the nicest Maltese cities I saw during my trip. It is on a top of a peninsula in the Grand Harbour of Malta. Everything in the city reminded me of the Great Siege of 1565, when the Turks besieged the city, then capital of the Order of Saint John and after 2-3 months of unsuccessful siege left without conquering Malta. The atmosphere in the net of small streets is very old and medieval. At the top of the peninsula is the Fort Sant Angelo - an old fortress, which is, unfortunately, currently not opened to the public.
