If you’ve got a taste for tapas, look no further than one of my favourite restaurants, the aptly named Tapas Bar on leafy Mao Ming Nan Lu. Ok, it might not be up to Barcelona standards, but the olives, bread with aioli, fried cheese and chicken kebabs are always a hit when I go with my friends. I think the thing that keeps us going back to this small space on 2 floors, is the dimly lit, cozy atmosphere (terracotta floor tiles, wooden furniture) and the friendly service (the manager is a cheerful Filipino guy who never let’s his genuine smile drop – even when we’re struggling to read the bill after too many jugs of sangria!) Tapas start from 15RMB and there’s a huge variety. Service is quick and friendly and they do a good selection of wines, starting at around 180 RMB for a house bottle. There’s also main courses of pasta and sandwiches etc in case you’re not up for sharing. Hours are 11am (perfect for brunch) to 2am (perfect for drunken snacking) and they also offer daily specials such as 199 RMB for a bottle of wine and 5 tapas, depending on the day. In short, Tapas bar is great anytime of the day whether you’re 2 people or 10. Tags for this Travel Tip: china shanghai dining restaurant tapas spanish wine sangria mao ming food european |
