Travel Tip: Upminster

2 stars
Published on Mar 11, 2008 by travelkevin for Upminster

Upminster on the suburban London/Essex fringe is where the capital finally gives way to the countryside and is the eastern terminus of the District underground line (the green one). It’s also a stop on the Fenchurch Street to Southend main line railway so you might find yourself here changing trains.

If you have time to kill the main high street is pretty standard English fare but the town does boast the interesting church of St Lawrence and the attractive Upminster windmill, an octagonal “smock” windmill open to the public on half a dozen weekends throughout the year. Both the church and windmill are about ten minutes walk from the station.
