Travel Tip: Santiago de Chile - first impressions

5 stars
Published on Mar 28, 2008 by Sinbad the sailor for Santiago

The main geographical characteristic of Santiago is that it is surrounded by the Andes Mountains – as one can clearly see both driving across the city and from the air. In fact in my first visit the air felt a bit dense, with smog like in Los Angeles – California.

Pablo Neruda and the Bellavista quarter are references to keep in mind. Bellavista is a nice place with interesting music-cafés and bohemia.

I found the underground wheels quite funny in Santiago – some sort of pneumatic mix with the rails.

Then the Sta. Lucia Hill area and the local art craft market – to visit also.

The main square of Santiago - the ancient colonial style Plaza de Armas, is a good place to start knowing the city and what it offers.
