Travel Tip: Parliament of the Cook Islands

For a slightly different holiday experience on the Cook Islands go and visit the Parliament building which is to the south of the airport near Avarua in a very low-key bungalow that used to be a hotel!

I’d read in the guide book that you could just turn up and ask for a tour and this proved to be exactly the case, in fact one of the members of parliament came and met us and gave us a personal tour around “the chamber”, complete with a picture of Queen Elizabeth.

As well as being an unusual experience it was also very interesting to hear about the specific problems and issues that face this isolated group of mid-Pacific islands.
