Travel Tip: Sossusvlei

3 stars
Published on May 26, 2008 by pingati007 for Sossusvlei

Situated in the heart of Namib Desert, the Sossusvlei is one of the most spectacular geographical wonders that I have ever visited in my lifetime. The Sossusvlei is a wonderful giant clay pan that is enclosed by gigantic sand dunes. Our tour guides informed us that the amazing hills of sand are estimated to be as high as 300 meters, a height that is considered to be the highest in the world for sand dunes. Our tour guide further informed us that beautiful turquoise lakes form over the Sossusvlei whenever it rains because it has sand that hardly allow water filtration. I really enjoyed the breathtaking desert views that surround the Sossusvlei. Some of the world animals that I spotted around the Sossusvlei included springboks and lions. Accommodation facilities are available nearby at the Naukfutt Park.
