Travel Tip: Andechs Monastery

3 stars
Published on May 31, 2008 by NOFXmike for Kloster Andechs

Andechs Monastery is located about an hour south of Munich near the town of Herrsching. Herrsching itself is on a lake and quite pretty for a day out in Munich with the alps within sight to the South. However, the big draw for the town is Andechs Monastery. The Monastery itself has a nice church and is pretty as it’s on a hill high above the Ammersee and the town of Herrsching. The real reason people go there, however, is for the beer. Literally several hundred people are there on many a beautiful Bavarian afternoon, enjoying the Andechs beer which is brewed right there, as well as the local meats and cheeses also from the monastery itself.
