Travel Tip: Santiago de Chile - foundation at Cerro Santa Lucia

5 stars
Published on Jun 15, 2008 by Sinbad the sailor for Cerro Santa Lucia

I always like to visit the historical parts of the cities I travel to. In Santiago de Chile I suggest Cerro Santa Lucia and its nearby art craft market. You can get to the area quite easily using the underground transport system.

This hill of Santa Lucia marks the foundation of the city by the Spanish Pedro de Valdivia in 1541. It is a nice ornamented hill, with stylish stairs and arch-buildings. On the top you have a great view to all of Santiago.

There is a nearby garden from where you cross to the other side of the hectic traffic streets – and there you can browse around the local art craft. From Chilean ponchos to woodcraft – you will find very interesting items.
