Travel Tip: Mauritian Cooking

4 stars
Published on Jun 21, 2008 by shreena for Mauritius

Perhaps the best representation of Mauritius's cultural history is its cooking

All the women in my family still bring their daughters into the kitchen while they’re making their curries, sweet and sour chicken, and home made brioches. The Mauritian Cuisine is a cultural melting pot, incorporating flavours from the Caribbean, France, Holland, India, Africa, England, China, and beyond!

Some of these foods lack the subtle Mauritian touch from their native countries (notably ginger and garlic), so i regularly opt out of eating in Indian and Chinese restaurants. (The French, as we know, are flawless).
