Travel Tip: Ottery Saint Mary

2 stars
Published on Jun 23, 2008 by travelkevin for Ottery Saint Mary

Ottery Saint Mary is a business-like town close to the South coast in Devon dominated by the large church of Saint Mary (see my other travel tip). The centre is a small network of one way streets (particularly confusing for drivers) and organised around the church and the town hall/police station.

The town is notable as the birth place of Samuel Taylor Coleridge and there is a bust of the poet outside the church set into the wall.

It makes a good base for exploring the local area but beside the church and a quick wander around the streets there is not a lot else to keep you in town.
