The medium sized town of Ottery Saint Mary boasts a surprisingly large and sumptuous local church. Saint Mary was once attached to an ecclesiastic college and it’s well worth a look if you’re in the area and interested in churches and their architecture. Some of the highlights of Saint Mary’s include a beautiful astronomical clock showing the time, phases of the moon and day of the month, some stocks in the churchyard and a scale model of the church made entirely from matchsticks inside. Postcards and guides to the church are available just inside the main door. Tags for this Travel Tip: church anglican ottery saintmary devon clock stocks |
