Having arrived in Bolivia from super-pricey Brazil, I couldn't get over how cheap the prices were in Santa Cruz. Given that this is perhaps the country's most 'Westernised' city, you'd be forgiven for thinking the prices might be higher than elsewhere. Not so. Basic hotels for the equivalent of £3 for a double room, all-you-can eat lunches for £1, bottles of wine (in a restaurant) for £2...marvellous. My travelling companions and I had become so used to having to scrimp and save in Brazil that it felt like a real treat to go to a Chinese restaurant and just order whatever we felt like, including, real luxury this, two bottles of white wine. Ok, it was Bolivian and not fantastic, but hey, at least it was wine!
