Arriving at a Bolivian bus station can be an intimidating experience - unlike neighbouring Brazil, where there tends to be just one bus company plying each route, here there are several, and each company employs people to yell at potential passengers about their prices. The good news is that with so many companies plying the same route, you can often get bargains close to departure time as they battle to fill seats. Ask around at a few places and generally one or more company will agree to drop their price. Remember that you also have to pay a small departure tax from major bus stations - this needs to be paid before you board the bus, so don't be concerned if an official starts demanding money from you, they're just doing their job!
