Zagreb’s Cathedral also goes under the name of Cathedral of the Assumption of Mary. It is located on Kaptol 31 (from the Ban Jelacic square take the up hill street on the far right). If there is only time for one tourist sight then Cathedral would be it. Its long tall spires were under much scaffolding until recently but although the restoration still has not been completed the spires are without scaffolding at least. Designed by Herman Bolle this is one if not the most famous landmark in Zagreb featured on every other postcard. It is a quiet place of contemplation but it gets very crowded during religious holidays. Check out the altar and the pulpit and if you are visiting during the summer take refuge here to cool off. Opening hours are from 10:00am until 5:00pm and during mass times. Tags for this Travel Tip: cathedral architecture |
