Travel Tip: Visiting Denarau

Oh my god, is this place for real! You look at the rest of the surrounding places like Nadi, the islands and its all the real Fiji, then you arrive in Denarau and its so geared up for tourists its unreal, all pretty and neat with western prices to match its totally bazaar and has a distinct clinical feel to it, I hated it. Its boring, small and surrounded by all the posh resorts. Denarau has no personality at all, its like your not even on holiday. They do however have a free cultural show in the town a few nights a week, so you can see traditional dance, the funny costumes with grass skirts that the men wear, plus see some fire dancing etc. There is also a free shuttle bus for the surrounding resorts. Apart from that there is nothing and it took me five minutes to look around which is annoying as the only way of getting there from Nadi is a taxi which costs $15 Fijian, for a five minute look around and then back to Nadi for another $15! Go see the cultural show though; there is definitely one on Fridays starting about 6pm.
