The Catacombs of Paris are an impressive network of tunnels filled with an incredible amount of bones. Many of these are arranged in artistic patterns, while many more are just piled against the walls. It is an eerie experience, although those in our party expecting a crypt-keeper experience were disappointed. For those interested in history, particularly the history of Paris between the seventeenth century and the 1789 revolution, however, there is a lot here to learn, from the history of the plague and the many cemeteries to the stories of famous Parisians executed during the revolution. For those interested in the more macabre history of the city, this is an excellent place to begin. For those looking for a truly creepy tourist experience, this may not live up to your expectations.
