Stairway of Sighisoara: one step, two steps...

In it's angle, it's an impressive construction to photograph. It was built in 1663 and originally had three hundred steps. Later in time it was covered with wood to protect the children on their way to school. After the modifications made in 1849, there were only 175 rungs left. Those rungs are also used today. I must admit the whole ensemble is pretty weird, the rocks between the stairs block, that serve as slabs are quite uncomfortable to walk on, as it never rains inside and they get out of the ground they're fixed in. Nevertheless, it's a beautiful image as you get up... a must-see of Sighisoara.
