My first impression of Bermuda was overwhelming – I felt as if I was in a dream, really – the colourful little houses, clear water, beaches with white sand, everything so green and so many flowers blooming – just beautiful! Bermuda has 66.000 inhabitants – so it’s really small. Plus, it has a lot of rich people living there and many huge hotels and resorts, golf courses and a loooot of souvenir shops. Many reinsurance companies settled here because there is no taxation here, but living costs are very high, food is overpriced and accomodation almost not affordable – nothing for backpackers. Everything you buy in Bermuda is imported – that’s the main reason why it is so expensive. Bermuda has numerous beautiful beaches – one nicer than the other, there are not many ugly places on the island. Local people say that there are sometimes clashes between white and black people, but all in all I found it a very safe and pleasant island with friendly people. Exploring the island by scooter is fabulous!
