Lucca is a great Italian town in Northern Tuscany. It has long been a capital of an independent state – the Duchy of Lucca and this time can be traced in the facades of the buildings of this beautiful city. All around the town there are large squares, big Romanesque churches and long streets. I got the impression that the whole old town (whose big walls are still standing around the core) is a pedestrian area, a fact that I like really much. The tourist information office, situated at the Western end of the old town (Piazza Verdi) is very helpful and gave me a lot of good tips and brochures.
