Crossing to Kazakhstan
Last summer I crossed from China to Kazakhstan at Horgos border point. I recommend getting to the border very early in order to be able to cross before very long lunch break. It is better to change money on Chinese side, where you will get slightly better rate. Then you have to pass Chinese customs and passport control. When you are done with all that, you are going out of the building. Now you are officially on the no man’s land. Here you will find shared taxis ( marshrutka ). They will take you 500 meters to Kazakh customs, because you are not allowed to cross the no man’s land by foot. The taxi sharks will charge you around 20 Yuan or 400 Tenge.
