Les Calanques: walk to Marseille

Our guide promised us a ‘gentle, beautiful’ 6-hour walk. I can’t say I agree with the former but it was certainly beautiful….
We caught a bus to Cassis, which is like a mini-St Tropez, then set off on the footpath back towards Marseille. The hike involved some very steep descents and climbs, and being 5 foot 2 was a distinct disadvantage at some of the more tricky points. It was worth it for the views though, and there were a few small beaches along the way that provided pleasant resting spots. At the end of the path there is a choice of carrying on into Marseille by foot (another hour) or taking the bus… my feet were very grateful that I chose the second option! [more ]
