Rejuvenate at Mayapur
0 of 1 people found this review helpful
The temple complex at Mayapur is surprisingly clean and well maintained. A visit to the goshala is interesting, and one can plan to visit the neighboring temples if one is so inclined. Nature is at its best on the banks of the river, which is a great place to unwind before heading back to the madness of city life.

Planning Your Trip
1 of 1 people found this review helpful
It is possible to visit Mayapur and get back to Kolkata in a day, but devotees and visitors have the option of staying on. The temple complex has a variety of guest rooms ranging from Rs 80 per person, per night to Rs 625 per room for air-conditioned accommodation. Guest rooms can be booked through the Kolkata ISKCON temple or through the reservation desk at Mayapur. Check out time is 9am, but visitors have the option of paying half the rent and stay till 4pm. It is difficult to find accommodation on weekends and during the Mayapur festival which takes place in the months of February and March. Book well in advance if planning to visit at these times. The temple complex has provision, medical and vegetable stores.

Meals at Mayapur
0 of 1 people found this review helpful
Lunch and dinner are available at 1.00pm and 8.30pm which are also prasad. I booked myself a meal and had a hearty vegetarian lunch. But one should book meals well in advance as there is a huge rush for this. Lunch costs about Rs 20 and dinner Rs 12. Apart from this, smaller meals costing Rs 8-10 are available twice a day. So, one will never go hungry while at Mayapur.

Getting to Mayapur
1 of 1 people found this review helpful
The best way to get to Mayapur is to hire a taxi. The cost would vary from about Rs 700 to Rs 1,200 depending on which part of Kolkata one is driving out from. Cheaper options include regular bus services from the ISKCON temple at Kolkata as well as from Esplanade. Local trains ply between Howrah station and Navdvipa which is across the river from Mayapur, so one would need to cross the river by boat and then take a rickshaw to Mayapur.

Where is Mayapur?
0 of 1 people found this review helpful
Some 130km north of Kolkata, on the banks of the river Ganga, is located a small village, Mayapur. The name itself held promise and since I had always heard about it I decided to go the distance to see the place for myself.
Mayapur is the birthplace of Lord Chaitanya, who is regarded as a reincarnation of Lord Krishna. Apart from many temples, gardens, a gurukul (ancient Indian school system), and a goshala (dairy), Mayapur is the world headquarters of ISKCON (International Society for Krishna Consciousness).
