Fuel for your rocket - Doc Müllers Raketencafé
The Doc Müllers Raketencafé is a great place to sip a beer. It is comfortably laid-back, nothing pretentious, simple (but not boring) interior and the beer mostly comes in bottles. The music is kinda in tune with the establishment´s name - a bit spacy at times, but again: not pretentious. The crowd that hangs out here is mostly of the post-graduate student kind, lots of horn-rimmed glasses, plaid shirts and fancy words. Sounds a little weird, I know, but it´s actually a nice little bar for the start or the end of your night out. It´s on Hafenstrasse by the canal, which is a good place to be on a Friday night, because there´s lots of clubs and bars around.

Domplatz in Münster
1 of 1 people found this review helpful
The central square in Münster (or one of them) is the Domplatz surrounding the cathedral. To this date this is where the Bishop of Münster resides; the cathedral was heavily bombed during WWII and looks rather 20th century now. Do go inside though and check out the astronomical clock, dating from the 16th century. On Wed and Sat there's a great farmers market where you can buy flowers, produce, bread, an warm socks. On Friday afternoons there's a special bio farmers market where you can get the best fried potatoes in town. Also on the Domplatz: the art museum.

Christmas market in Münster
If you are anywhere in the vicinity of Münster do take the time to visit it in December. The christmas market, a great German tradition, is one of the best you will come across in Germany. It's basically spread all over the old town, which in itself makes for a spectacular setting. Hundreds of little wooden huts offer anything from intricate handycrafts to useless junk, so plenty christmas present ideas to pick from. No risk of getting cold or hungry either, since for every craft hut there are three offering mulled wine, eggnog and waffles with hot cherry sauce.

Shopping for the rich in Münster
Anyone visiting Münster will inevitably walk on the Prinzipalmarkt, the central shopping street. Destroyed in WWII it was reconstructed to its original design: the characteristic arcades, the pebbled road, the individual roof tops. The shops along the street are of the expensive kind. Halfway down the road you will find the Rathaus (city hall) in which was crafted the Westphalian Peace Treaty (1648). Further up the Prinzipalmarkt is the Lambertikirche. Look up the spire and you will spot three cages - an eerie reminder of the days when protestant heretics were tortured and killed and displayed in this very spot as a warning to the general public.
