Oberhausen during the night
Oberhausen is a big industrial city in Westphalia. I visited it one night on my way to more beautiful places (in that case Siegen and Soest) and I was not very impressed. The center was nice, but not special in any way and since I had enough time I decided to visit also the castle of Oberhausen. That was a bad bad idea – the castle is quite far away from the city center and I had to walk on a road that seemed like a highway for more than half an hour to reach it. The castle was pink in color and…more like a big villa having only one floor and in the dark it didn’t look very impressive. Probably during the day it is better. From there I could also see the Gasometer – something like a large cylinder of unknown for me use, which serves as the main attraction of Oberhausen, it probably has some nice view from the top, but I was there at night so I didn’t visit it. The only thing that I saw in Oberhausen and really impressed me was the greatest water tower I have ever seen, situated on the way between the city center and the castle.
