My favourite spot in Patan was The Golden Temple (Kwa Bahal) – a stunningly ornate Buddhist monastery – where I left my shoes with the pile of other people’s leather and entered the inner courtyard, to be greeted by centuries-old tortoises and two beautiful stone elephants. After the growing rumble of my stomach, I dined al-fresco on the rooftop Café de Temple, where I tried a cup of Tibetan herbal Yarchagumpa tea over a huge plate of chicken fried rice. This wonderful Durbar Square is a chance to witness the unity and harmony amongst religions and should be an example to us all.
