Porto and the Douro Valley
Portugal’s second city is an interesting location to visit in its own right as well as a great base for exploring the northern part of the country. It’s not the most attractive place in the world but has some lovely sights and a slightly off-the-beaten track atmosphere if you’re coming from the tourist haunts of the Algarve. The city is famous for its connection with port and there are several cellars in town at which you can taste and learn more about this fortified wine.
