Portpatrick Harbour
Not far from Stranraer, on the South West coast of Scotland is the lovely harbour of Portpatrick. Although small, there really is a lot to do. The beach itself is tiny, and disappears at high tide, but there is enough space for a run about and a sandcastle or two. There are some cliff top walks, putting green in the summer, a small amusement arcade for the kids, and a play park. The sea front has a good choice of pubs and cafés for afternoon tea. I can´t remember the name, but the one set up above the harbour is fantastic, and the meringues were as big as plates. Fantastic home cooking and a lovely owner. The place has the feel of an old fashioned holiday resort.
The gift shops are good, with some unusual items, and an antique shop selling good quality items. A lovely place to spend the afternoon.
