Pororari River Track
There was a little brown bird running in and out of the plants ahead of me, bobbing its head with wild abandon. Its short little legs were working overtime, and it looked quite comical, sort of like Roadrunner in the old cartoons. It thought I was chasing it, and every so often it would turn its little head and look at me, before running on a few metres. It had short little stubby wings, so I figured it was a member of the flightless species known as Weka. I couldn't work out why it didn't just run off the track and hide somewhere, instead of just running in the same direction as I was going.
