The capital of Chinese beer
Qingdao is a pretty seaside town which makes some of the best beer in China Tsingtao. There are tours of the brewery available, but only at high season and for groups (China is not well prepared for the solo traveler). I wasn’t able to persuade anyone to take me, but at least I took a picture of the famous pier and pagoda on the labels! The interesting thing about this place is its German influenced architecture and more Western feel. This was one of the few places I wasn’t mobbed for being a LaoWai (foreigner) and I enjoyed the freedom of being able to wander the pretty streets and clean, wide beaches without attracting too much attention.
